The Walking Dead Season Finale

By - HD

Last nights Walking Dead had a lot of events that I am sure no one expected. It was expected that there would be a big battle to the end between Rick and his family at the prison and the governor and his town. Last week’s episode surely looked that way but last night it was something different. The governor took his crew that has been doing his dirty work for him along with some of the town’s people to attack the prison. Once they got to the prison Rick had already created a plan that made it appear that they had left. Little did they governor know as they were going through the prison searching that Rick and crew were hiding. They ended up firing on the town’s people scaring them away.

On the way back to the town, the governor was not happy with the results at the prison and pulled everyone over. He was furious and wanted to go back for revenge as he likes to say go back to end this war. Woodbury residents did not feel at one with the governor and his plans so they refused. The governor snapped and went crazy. He lost it and shot everyone except one person that hid themselves under a dead corpse.

Rick and some of the members decided to head to Woodbury to finish the battle. On the way to the prison, they found the one survivor from the governor massacre. They took her back to town where they found Andrea locked in a room where she was forced to defend herself. During the attempt to defend herself, Andrea was bitten and it was a matter of time before she changed. She requested Rick’s gun and killed herself.

What can be expected from next season? How do you feel towards Merles death and now Andrea’s death?

Game of Thrones: Episode 1 Recap/Review

By - J

Game of Thrones has begun right back where we thought it would. Season 3 is based on A Storm or Swords the third book in George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire. It's suppose to be one of the major climax's and battles of the series.

It begins with Sam who's managed to get away from the White Walkers and eventually finds Commander Jeor after being attacked by a White Walker. Commander Jeor asks Sam if he sent the Ravens which he hasn't.

We then return to Jon Snow who's come to the village of the Wildling's where he sees giants and meets the King beyond the wall. It turns out that the "King" was once a Night's Watch guard himself. In disbelief they are surprised that he has killing Captain Qhorin. At first they don't believe Jon really wants to join them but he recants the story of Craster's offerings to the White Walkers, with this story he tells them he wants to fight for the side of the living and is accepted.

We then return back to King's Landing with a series of  plots. Tyrion requests Bronn who's held up in  Whore House. Cersei comes to see Tyrion to figure out why he wants to see their father. She get's nothing from him. Skipping along we see Tyrion finally meets with his father and asks for his fathers kingdom. Tywin ultimately tells Tyrion he won't get anything and shows his digust in having an Imp son.

Davos Seaworth is also alive surprisingly. He attempts to go back to go back to Stannis against Salladhor's advice to try and convince Stannis that Mellisandre is evil.

Joffrey's new bride to be apparently has a taste for helping the poor which Cersei doesn't approve of. Then we follow Robb Stark who's arrived at Harrenhal only to find it completely destroyed with a lonely survivor he then asks his men to find a room for his mother to stay as prisoner.

Finally we get to the good part with Daenerys (my personal favourite) whos gotten her ship and her Dragons which have grown alot but not enough for her. They then go to a place where they are to purchase an army of slaves. Worst part of this is when Kraznys cuts the guys nipple off. Kraznys also gives Daenerys notice that she has one day to decide if she wants the men or not. At the end of this episode a familiar character returns to season 3 Barristan Selmy who saves Daenerys from death by a trick of the Qarth warlocks.

Conclusion:

It's a slow start to the season so far. But I expect it to get a lot more action packed as stories develop. It definitely didn't cover all the plots in the series so far. I'm excited to see where the story goes and just how well the writes have adapted the book into the season.

The Walking Dead Season Finale

By - HD

The Walking Dead this season has been nothing short of epic. With only one episode left the intensity is increasing. Since the beginning of this show, it has kept its viewers at the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens next.

Last night there was a bit of a shock as Merle who has always been viewed as the more aggressive not getting along with anyone type turned into a zombie. He decided to take on the Governor and his other half alone. He was out numbered, but for a second it seemed like he may have been able to pull off a perfect sneak attack. He had the perfect plan/tactics but because of his distraction due to a zombie that came out of nowhere, Merle was attacked by the Governor and left for the zombies to feast on. Daryl Dixon later showed up to aid his brother to only find him feasting on a corpse himself. Daryl had to do one of the hardest things any man would have to do in a situation like that which is killing his own brother or in other words his zombie brother.

Next Sunday’s show should be action packed as the Governor suits up with his army to attack Rick and his small crew in a battle it seems that will be to the death. The Governor is nothing but a deceitful manipulative person that seeks to get his way at any cost. In his mind we can assume because of Merles attack that Rick may have had something to do with it. Rick on the other hand although appears to be crazy at times, has a heart for his crew and has their best interest at heart. One could question Rick’s ability to lead a team as he has experienced on more than one occasion hallucination of his wife. Regardless of that, he is the person who the team looks up to. They expect him to guide them throughout their journey in a world filled with flesh eating zombies.

Will Rick and his gang stay to defend the prison they call home?

The final episode will not only have us clinching our seats but it will also have our eyes glued to the television set not wanting to miss a scene. Who will win the battle between the two crews if they shall battle it out?

Top 10 Cartoons of the 90's

By - J

I know this post says top 10 but it doesn't truly do justice tothe TV shows 90's kids like me grew up. At SGL we've thought long and hard about the shows that we loved the most growing up, and we hope you'll enjoy our list. The majority of these shows were shows we personally watched on YTV and Teletoon here in Toronto. So sit back and enjoy the nostalgia.

10. Pokemon

I'll tell you why this doesn't make number 1. Pokemon is still a  running show and is going strong, due to this it just doesn't deserve the title of number 1. Nintendo's done a lot of work to keep releasing new games to try and keep Pokemon relevant, but no matter how many shows they have it will never touch the original Pokemon we grew up with.

9. Digimon

I know what your thinking. Oh shit. I completely forgot about this show. When we were brainstorming the shows and someone said this i was instantly intrigued and knew this had to be one of the top 10. You'll remember familiar characters like Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, T.K. and Kari who are sucked into an alternate digital dimension where they are companioned by Digimon to defeat the evil that has shrouded the Digital World.

8. Beasties (or Beast Wars if you're American)

Beasties was a spin off of the original transformers franchise but was one of the best adaptations of it they had made. It starts off after the Maximals (Autobots) and Predacons (Decepticons) crash land on a mysterious planet and take on forms of "beasts" and fossilized dinosaurs on the planet to survive from the overwhelming energon.

7.  Rugrats

The Rugrats was one of those shows that I never really knew what was going on but made me laugh. It would take you away into the minds of the kids daily lives. In 1997 was really the point where Rugrats took off with the Rugrats movie.

6. Johnny Bravo

In this comedy filled show we follow Johnny Bravo the Elvis impersonating, Kung Fu fighting guy who taught us SWAG and how to pick up women (ineffectively). He introduced the "gino" style long before Pauly D and the Jersey Shore. Poor guy would never get a break.

5.  Arthur

Arthur is one of those shows that i would watch either right before school or after school. Arthur was that show I could relate to considering he was around my age at the time. It follows Arthurs daily life with his family and friends Buster, Francine, the brain and many more. Arthurs life is easily the best representation of a 90's student life.

4. Country Mouse and City Mouse

When i first thought of this show I couldn't help but laugh. This is possible one of the greatest shows on TV. It followed country mouse Emily and City mouse Alexander as they travel to visit there cousins all over the world and meeting new friends. All while evading rats and other troubles as well!

3. Magic School Bus

This is one of the shows that if the day ever comes where I have kids, i'm sitting down and having them watch this. Not only is this show fun to watch it's also quite educational and this is probably the show that made me do so well in science in elementary school. Led by the energetic Ms Frizzle, the gang goes on the magical school bus to get first hand experience with learning. I wish this were real and had a teacher like this in elementary school.

2. X-Men

We had to put in a Marvel comic show, and mind you it wasn't easy there were other top competitors for the spot as well such as Batman and Spider man. The cartoon X-men is probably the best adaptation of the comic ever, i don't think i even enjoyed the movies as much as this cartoon. In the movie characters like Gambit and Jubilee were taken out as main characters and since i had grown up with them i was like WTF? They also transformed Rogue into a terrible character considering in the show she was one of the most powerful; to a frail young girl in the movie couldn't be more of a disappointment. This is definitely one of the shows of the 90's that I could watch over and over again.

Check out our playlist of all the shows we can remember that weren't part of this Top 10.

House of Cards - Season 1

By- EB

Since it's March 1st, exactly a month since the release date of House of Cards an exclusive Netflix series, we here at SGL thought it would only be fitting to review the show. This political drama, follows the life of Frank Underwood played by Kevin Spacey, who after getting passed over for promotion to Secretary of State seeks out revenge on those who betrayed him. With the help of his wife, an environmental activist played by Robin White and a local reporter played Kate Mara, Underwood uses sleazy dark tactics to try and blackmail his way into the ultimate spot in the White House.

The Dynamic between Spacey and White is almost very fascinating and exciting to watch, somehow creating a reason for you to cheer for the couple that is clearly prepared to stop at nothing to see themselves in the limelight. Spacey, by far delivers the strongest display of method acting and it is easy to see that he jives well with the wonderfully manipulative Frank Underwood.

This show offers dark, twisted humour riding the coattail of brilliant dialogue. We give it a solid 9 out of 10 and are excited to see the second season, that is currently in production. Well worth 13 hours of your time.

Game of Thrones Season 3

By - J

It’s coming. HBO just unveiled its first true trailer for the upcoming third season installment of Game of Thrones, and all I have to say is WOW. This trailer gave me all sorts of shudders. It's truly a MAN’s show (and some ladies too), its got everything: sex, death, gore, beautiful women and everything else you’d expect. Based on George R. R. Martin’s (yea I know what’s with the two R’s) series, “A Song of Ice and Fire” the TV adaptation of it is amazing.

See the new trailer below. If you haven’t seen season 1 or 2 yet STOP NOW, and go watch it. Believe me it's worth it and if you dont check out this article posted on Huffington Post. Please make sure you're over 18 and this video is also NSFW. If that hasn't changed your mind you are not a man, if it has the show is available on iTunes as well as HBO’s official site. Or if you’re like me you can visit either of these two sites for links: here and here.

The season is set to pick up where Season 2 left off, the amount of storylines that occur in the series is sometimes overwhelming. But here’s a breakdown of what I think are the more important storylines:

WARNING SPOILER ALERT

Intense,  I know. I’m quite excited for this season. Game of Thrones returns on March 31st so get ready.
