Game of Thrones: Episode 1 Recap/Review

By - J

Game of Thrones has begun right back where we thought it would. Season 3 is based on A Storm or Swords the third book in George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire. It's suppose to be one of the major climax's and battles of the series.

It begins with Sam who's managed to get away from the White Walkers and eventually finds Commander Jeor after being attacked by a White Walker. Commander Jeor asks Sam if he sent the Ravens which he hasn't.

We then return to Jon Snow who's come to the village of the Wildling's where he sees giants and meets the King beyond the wall. It turns out that the "King" was once a Night's Watch guard himself. In disbelief they are surprised that he has killing Captain Qhorin. At first they don't believe Jon really wants to join them but he recants the story of Craster's offerings to the White Walkers, with this story he tells them he wants to fight for the side of the living and is accepted.

We then return back to King's Landing with a series of  plots. Tyrion requests Bronn who's held up in  Whore House. Cersei comes to see Tyrion to figure out why he wants to see their father. She get's nothing from him. Skipping along we see Tyrion finally meets with his father and asks for his fathers kingdom. Tywin ultimately tells Tyrion he won't get anything and shows his digust in having an Imp son.

Davos Seaworth is also alive surprisingly. He attempts to go back to go back to Stannis against Salladhor's advice to try and convince Stannis that Mellisandre is evil.

Joffrey's new bride to be apparently has a taste for helping the poor which Cersei doesn't approve of. Then we follow Robb Stark who's arrived at Harrenhal only to find it completely destroyed with a lonely survivor he then asks his men to find a room for his mother to stay as prisoner.

Finally we get to the good part with Daenerys (my personal favourite) whos gotten her ship and her Dragons which have grown alot but not enough for her. They then go to a place where they are to purchase an army of slaves. Worst part of this is when Kraznys cuts the guys nipple off. Kraznys also gives Daenerys notice that she has one day to decide if she wants the men or not. At the end of this episode a familiar character returns to season 3 Barristan Selmy who saves Daenerys from death by a trick of the Qarth warlocks.

Conclusion:

It's a slow start to the season so far. But I expect it to get a lot more action packed as stories develop. It definitely didn't cover all the plots in the series so far. I'm excited to see where the story goes and just how well the writes have adapted the book into the season.

What do you guys think? What are you looking forward to this season? Let us know in the comments below.
